Support to veterans and elderly people from Moldova

40 veterans of the II World War from Leova Rayon and 194 people with disabilities, veterans of labor and war from Moldova, hosted by the Republican Center for Rehabilitation of Disabled People and Labor Veterans, situated in Cocieri v., Dubasari Rayon, benefited from food and clothing products packages.

Press Release: Gender Equality Creates Better Living Conditions for Citizens of Moldova

Over 100 participants from Moldova and other Countries gathered together in Chisinau on November 20th, 2012 at the First Edition of the International Conference “Gender Equality for Sustainable Society” to discuss how to ensure the equality between men and women. The conference was attended by representatives of the Parliament, Government, local authorities, embassies accredited in Moldova, international organizations, civil society, businesses and media. The conference, which will become an annual one, advocates for a better representation of women in all areas of public life.

“I am glad that this conference brought together representatives of all sectors of Moldovan society, as well development partners of our country. Being aware of the problems and barriers that exist in the area of gender equality, the Government of Moldova reaffirms its firm commitment to undertake comprehensive efforts to ensure equal opportunities for women and men in our country.”, Mr. Vladimir Filat, the Moldovan Prime Minister mentioned during the event.

 The conference was structured around three thematic sessions, discussing the gender equality in the society, women participation in politics and public service and advancement of women in business.

Key actors meet to consider the situation on Political Party Finance Reform in Moldova

Central Electoral Commission, OSCE Mission in Moldova, IDIS „Viitorul”, IFES representation in Moldova and East-Europe Foundation organizes the International Conference „Political Party Funding in the Republic of Moldova: current situation and reform options”.

This conference is being organized within the discussions regarding the reform on political parties funding in the Republic of Moldova. The local and international experts will discuss the matters related to the problems on political party funding and will focus on the following: the current situation of political party funding; reform options of public funding system, transparency of political party finance, proposals for strengthening women’s participation in politics.

East Europe Foundation has launched the program “Engaging Citizens, Empowering Communities”

The program comprises 7 thematic projects that will lead to strengthening the position of civil society in the decision making and in the community development processes.  Nongovernmental organizations will be encouraged to participate more actively at the development, implementation and monitoring of public policies at national level, will be engaged in promoting an inclusive and transparent electoral process and will contribute to observing the ethical and professional standards by Moldovan media.

In addition, East Europe Foundation will offer support for the civil initiative groups from 20 rural communities in addressing local problems, will work to ensure better employment and social opportunities for vulnerable people in 10 communities through supporting creation of social enterprises and will offer better access to educational services for children with disabilities in four communities. The Foundation will continue supporting the Youth Banks, involving young people from 6 rayons of the country in identifying and addressing problems of their communities.

On October 25th, 2012 East Europe Foundation organized a reception on the occasion of launching this program.
