Sorin MEREACRE
Sorin Mereacre is the President of East Europe Foundation in Moldova and the Country Director for Moldova at Eurasia Foundation. Mr. Mereacre holds a Ph.D. in international private law from Bucharest State University and B.A. in Law from the State University of Moldova. He joined Eurasia Foundation as a Projects Officer in 1998. Before joining the Foundation, Mr. Mereacre served as vice president of one of the biggest Moldovan state transportation companies and was responsible for the company’s privatization process. Mr. Mereacre has strong experience in working with various international projects and institutions such as World Bank, European Commission and USAID. He was a member of the governmental task force for the implementation and monitoring of the U.S. Millennium Challenge Account Threshold Country Plan, representative of the Eurasia Foundation Moldova office in the Anticorruption Alliance of NGOs, member of the NGO expert advisory group to the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is one of the leading experts of the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections and a member of the Civil Society Donor’s Group in Moldova. In February 2010 Mr. Mereacre was elected as the Chairperson of the National Participation Council comprised out of 30 leading NGOs in Moldova and as a chair he participates in the sittings of the Cabinet of Ministers providing the feedback from the NPC members to the Prime-Minister and Ministers.
